Situated at one of the sacred banks of the Yamuna River in Mathura, Vishram Ghat is a great embodiment of both spirituality and history. Identified as the place where Bhagwan Sri Krishna, the god of love, and compassion rest after killing the demon king Kansa, the ghat is a very popular spot among the devotees and the people who go to the side for a visit. The Vishram Ghat is the place from where the sacred Parikrama (circumambulation) of Mathura starts and ends, thus it is a key part of the city's spiritual life.

Vishram is a Sanskrit term that means "to rest", with Srinath Ji and Shri Radha vowing to build a small resting place for the Lord at the place where he rested during this battle. The destination has seen defeat through the savior who resides there, as a result, it earned its sanctity. Gita, Ramayana, and the Mahabharata are famous epics in India, however, the location of its mythological significance cannot be found in these histories.
Vishram Ghat used to be a place where Mughal emperor Sikandar Lodi used to have severe restrictions in the Middle Ages. As a result of the religious leaders’ efforts and the remarkable devotion of Acharya Keshav Bhatt Kashimiri and Vallabhacharya Ji Maharaj, these harsh controls were freed and the ghat’s sanctity was regained.
Aati is one of the significant rituals that should not be missed at Vishram Ghat. The beautiful display of rituals and the floating oil lamps drifting alongside the Yamuna River has a fairy-tale evening effect.

Devotees and pilgrims are ritually purifying themselves in the cold sacred river waters, floating the little boats of lamps on the leaves of betel trees, and praying. They are convinced the rites lead to their atonement of the sins and the acquisition of the kingdom of God.

At dusk, the aarti is a wonderfultime and the river turns into a sea of lights. The gods and mantras created a sacred environment. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Yamuna, a picturesque river, offers fascinating boat trips at the Vishram Ghat. These cruises provide an exquisite view of the ghats and shrines, thereby gifting the onlookers with the peaceful ambiance of Mathura.
This ghat, the place where the river and the land meet, is surrounded by temples of historical or religious significance. The devotees can come to these temples to live their spiritual journey.
The best time of year for visiting Vishram Ghat is said to be from October to March, when it is not hot. Bhai Dooj is the second day after Diwali a major Hindu festival. The grand aarti and other rituals/events of the festive period are always jam-packed.
