History of Govind Dev Ji Temple Vrindavan

The period when Govind Dev Ji Temple came into existence was in the last five hundred years. It all began when the legendary chieftain of Vrindavan, Srimad Rupa Goswami, a staunch disciple of the most reverential of the stalwarts listed in the books of the Hare Rama Nagar of early Hare Lord Nityanada Charitamrita, happened to discover the idol of Lord Krishna on this site when he was guided by the jungle-forest-dwelling Krishna Himself. Subsequently, the temple was made to stand by Maharaja Man Singh-the King of Jaipur during the rule of the Mughal Empire in the 16th century.

Just when Alamgir Aurangzeb realized his supremacy and occupied the grand spot of the temple, he brought it down by taking away the top floors and Ram's image along with it to Jaipur for its security reasons. Thus these days, the sanctuary Sunder Mahal of Jaipur is a residence to the endorsed deity, while a duplicate one is utilized at Vrindavan.
