Deepotsav in Ayodhya 2025 is one of India’s biggest spiritual occasions, representing the return of Lord Ram back to Ayodhya after 14 years of exiled, and celebrating his victory over Ravana. The large festival, which occurs a few days prior to Diwali, lights almost the entire sacred city with millions of diyas, cultural performances and devotional rituals along the Saryu River banks. Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, is perhaps one of the most important locations and at the center of everything Deepotsav. Every year, Deepotsav attracts many pilgrims, visitors, and even abroad tourists coming to enjoy this unique occasion. At Vrindavan Mathura Tourism, we offer special Deepotsav tour packages to allow you to experience Deepotsav in all its glory.
This year the grand event of Deepotsav in Ayodhya will take place on Sunday, 19th October 2025. Deepotsav is the divine festival celebrated some days ahead of Diwali, commemorating the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and imprisonment. The bang ceremony illuminating the divinely intent of Deepotsav will take place on 19 October. However, Ayodhya will be alive with festivities from 18 to 23 October 2025 Including cultural programs, performances of devotional songs, and religious ceremonies in temples throughout the city.
The Deepotsav events have a schedule that is spiritual but festive. The schedule below is an expectation; based on traditions and years past.
Travel Advice: It is highly recommended for visitors to arrive well before mid-afternoon in order to get a decent vantage point near Ram Ki Paidi or the Saryu ghats for the diya-lighting ceremony in the evening; it can get extremely congested later in the evening.
Despite Diwali having lights, sweets, and family gatherings celebrating throughout India, Deepotsav experienced in Ayodhya is an experience of a lifetime. In Ayodhya, Diwali is more than simply social or communal celebrations of Diwali, take another meaning all together, as the city turns into a living epic of Ramayana and replicates the divine homecoming of Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman.
In essence, Diwali across India is joyous, but Deepotsav in Ayodhya is spiritual history coming alive, making it truly unique and unforgettable.
